PDP Considers Automatic Ticket for Goodluck Jonathan in 2027 Presidential Race

Daniel Woyengikuro, the National Financial Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has revealed that the party may offer former President Goodluck Jonathan an automatic ticket to contest the 2027 presidential election. However, he emphasized that Jonathan would need to rejoin the PDP and take on a more active role within the party.
In an exclusive interview, Woyengikuro described Jonathan as the ideal candidate for the PDP, highlighting his stature as a former president and a key leader of the party. “Is he not the best candidate for us at this moment? He is not just a former president; he is the leader of the party now,” Woyengikuro stated. He positioned Jonathan as second only to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in the party’s hierarchy, calling him “the national leader of this party.”
When pressed on whether the PDP would grant Jonathan an automatic ticket for the 2027 presidential race, Woyengikuro was unequivocal. “For me, that’s what I firmly stand for. You can quote me anywhere — I want him to come,” he said. “An automatic ticket for him, as it stands now. Because we must salvage both this party and the nation.”
Woyengikuro’s remarks signal a potential strategy by the PDP to leverage Jonathan’s experience and influence to strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the offer hinges on Jonathan’s return to active participation in the party’s activities.
As discussions around the 2027 elections intensify, all eyes will be on Jonathan’s next moves and whether he will accept the PDP’s invitation to lead the party’s charge for Nigeria’s presidency.
